200 Protesting farmers booked by UP Police for violence at Ghazipur border





The Uttar Pradesh police booked 200 protesting farmers after they attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at Ghazipur border.

BJP workers were present at the Ghazipur border for the welcome ceremony for the newly-elected BJP general secretary, Amit Valmiki. 

Talking about the incident, Sanjeev Sharma, convener BJP Ghaziabad Mahanagar, said, “Our leader Amit Valmiki was heading to Bulandshahr when he was being welcomed at the UP gate. As people gathered to greet him, the farmers gheraoed us with swords, sticks and broke his car’s glasses. They damaged nearly 25 of our cars. We requested our workers to not fight back.”

“There were about 300-400 workers including 20-25 women…We were on the other side of the expressway (Delhi-Ghaziabad carriageway), near the starting point of the Hindon elevated road. The farmers were on the other side in their camps. Suddenly, hundreds of them attacked us,” he added further. 

Police has booked 200 alleged farmer under IPC section 147, 148, 323, 352, 427 and 506 on the complaint of BJP general secretary Amit Valmiki.

“We received a complaint from BJP workers that they were attacked by farmers at Ghazipur border. They have alleged that their convoy was passing from the area when some persons from the protest came and attacked the vehicle,” said Anshu Jain, circle officer, Indirapuram.

Gyanendra Kumar Singh, superintendent of police, said police received counter complaints and were investigating the matter.
