Soumya Swaminathan

World Health Organisation chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan has informed that the technical advisory group examining the vaccine would meet on October 26 to consider the Emergency use listing (EUL) for Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

“The technical advisory group will meet on October 26 to consider EUL (Emergency use listing) for Covaxin. WHO has been working closely with BharatBiotech to complete the dossier. Our goal is to have a broad portfolio of vaccines approved for emergency use & to expand access to populations everywhere,” Swaminathan tweeted.

With this recent development, India can now expect the Emergency Use approval for the Covid-19 vaccine by the last week of October.

The WHO is currently reviewing the data submitted by the vaccine maker, and the date for a decision on the jab is “October 2021”, according to the update available on the WHO website.

In response, Suchitra Ella, Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech, said, “We believe our efforts to make Covaxin achieve EUL will be soon realised with regulatory compliances, enable further access of pandemic vaccines to the world.”
