How could people infected with Covid-19 cast vote in the forthcoming election in five states beginning January 10?

It’s learnt that they could cast their vote in person at a specified time slot towards the end of polling.

If a person has high temperature on the day of voting, they would be provided with a token asked to come back and cast their vote during the final hour of the polling.

The Election Commission, incidentally, has extended the voting time by an hour.

Several other measures, such as sanitization of the polling stations and vaccination of all election officials with a third “precautionary dose” has been announced by the poll body.

India will start administering a third jab to co-morbid senior citizens and frontline workers from tomorrow.

Polling agent/counting agent etc would not be allowed to enter the counting hall/polling station without full vaccination and in case of those who are not, RT-PCR test within 48 hours would be required.

All the entry points to such hall/room/ premises used for election purposes would have a provision for thermal scanning of all persons and sanitizer at all entry points.

Many contend that the country is already in the grip of a third wave of infections driven by the newly detected Omicron variant of COVID-19. Cases have risen sharply over the last fortnight, drawing the active tally up from 75,841 on December 27 morning to a little more than 4.72 lakh on January 8. According to some experts, the country may register about five lakh cases during the peak of this wave – likely to come in February.
