A cartoon on Thackeray lands a satirist in trouble with twitter

Micro social blogging site Twitter has issued a notice to a political cartoonist and satirist Vikaso, username @vikasopikaso, for his cartoon on the ‘best CM’.

While sharing the image of legal notice received for “violating the law(s) of India”, Vikas captioned, “Finally, received my first notice for a cartoon on the best CM ;)”

Vikas made a caricature of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray looking confused at two briefcases with ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Vasooli’ written on them. The cartoonist shows how CM got muddled while he had to choose one of the two.

Twitter has informed the cartoonist in the email that they have received a “request from India regarding the Twitter account @vikasopikaso, that claims the following content violates the law(s) of India.”

Twitter also mentioned that they are notifying him after they have received a legal request from an “authorized entity(such as law enforcement or a government agency)”

Last year also, a retired Navy officer Madan Sharma was attacked by Shiv Sena goons in Maharashtra for sharing a cartoon on WhatsApp. The WhatsApp forward was allegedly a satirical cartoon featuring Uddhav Thackeray and his allies Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi.
