A minor Hindu girl missing for 10 days: family says case of “Love Jihad”

A 17-years old minor Hindu girl from the Purnea district of Bihar has been missing for 10 days. Her family has alleged that their daughter is a victim of ‘love jihad and their neighbor’s son Md. Shahbaz has kidnapped and ‘married’ her.

According to a report, the girl had gone missing on December 19 and she had taken some jewelry and a mobile phone registered in the name of her father with her. Later when the girl’s family confronted Shahbaz’s family, his father Mohammed Shamim said his son had taken Vijay’s daughter and he should forget about her.

An FIR has been filed and officer-in-charge Amit Kumar has informed that accused Shahbaz, his father Md Shamim, mother, and another woman Munia Khatoon, who had helped the two elope has been booked under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 A (to induce any minor girl to go from any place or to force or seduce for illicit intercourse), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The girl, youngest of all her siblings, had completed her Class X from Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Uchcha Vidyalaya in Araria that is affiliated to Bihar Sanskrit Shiksha Board. As per her Class X certificate, her date of birth is 18 May 2004.

The family has expressed concerns about their safety as they live in a Muslim-dominated area. 

Last month in November also, a similar case was reported in Purnea district only where a Hindu girl was abducted by two men named Md Shakil and Md Afsar Alam from her college. The accused had introduced himself with a Hindu name- Bhola Shah.
