Anti-CAA protestor, charged with serious offences, in Congress’ UP list

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra released the party’s first list of 125 candidates, including 50 women, for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act-NRC activist Sadaf Jafar has also found her way in the list. Jafar will be contesting from Lucknow Central

Jafar made headlines in the media during 2019 when she was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Parivartan Chowk in Lucknow while hosting a Facebook live session showcasing the violent CAA(Citizenship Amendment Act) protest in the city. The Uttar Pradesh police had charged her with serious offences under the Indian Penal Code, including inciting violence and damaging public property.

Congress party, since beginning has been giving “moral support” to Anti-CAA and Anti-NRC supporters, including Sadaf Jafar.
