Arnab Goswami arrested; Visuals show being manhandled by Mumbai Police

Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami was arrested by Mumbai Police Wednesday morning. It’s learnt that Arnab was arrested in connection with an old abetment to suicide case. Its been alleged that he abetted suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer. A Mumbai police official said that an architect and his mother committed suicide in 2018 over alleged non-payment of dues by Republic TV.

As per a Zee Media report, CIU inspector Sachin Vaje said Arnab has been arrested under section 306 and section 34 of IPC.

It’s a shocking video. The Mumbai Police reached residence of editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami of Republic TV this morning and there are visual grabs of the media celebrity being manhandled by a man in Khaki.

A video in Republicworld.com show Arnab opening the door of his room and a policeman lunging to grab and drag him outside the room.

As per the report, as many as 10 police personnel entered his residence. They pushed and heckled Arnab, asking him to come out.

The network claims that Mumbai Police blocked the executive editor of the network, Niranjan Narayanswamy and senior associate editor Sanjay Pathak from entering Arnab’s residence. It further added that eight police vehicles and t least 40-50 police personnel are in the building premises of Arnab, many armed.

The report alleges that when Niranjan said it was his right to report, he was thrown out of the building and the Mumbai Police wanted his phone.

Arnab has claimed that his minor son was assaulted by Mumbai Police while he was boarded in police van. 

In total, Republic Media Network’s management and editorial staff have endured over 150 hours of questioning in a variety of cases that are beyond the initial fraud TRP matter, including Republic’s Senior Associate Editor Shawan Sen, Executive Editor Niranjan Narayanaswamy Output Editor Sagarika Mitra, Senior Associate Editor Shivani Gupta. The journalists maintained that they won’t reveal their sources.  

Mumbai Police’s brazen attempt to strike on press freedom has been exposed through the multiple sessions of unnecessary interrogation sessions. Taking it a step further, the Mumbai Police filed an FIR against the entire editorial team of the Network, invoking a 1922 British Raj-era law that had last been used in the Emergency-era.
