Bengali actress tweet with Condom on Shiv-ling causes furore

Bengali actress Saayoni Ghosh is facing a scathing attack from social media users for her vile Hinduphobic tweet, dating back to 2015, which has re-surfaced on social media.

The actress, back in 2015 in February on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri tweeted a malign image where a female character was seen putting a condom over the sacred Shiv-ling.

While the majority of people ignored the fact in 2015, former Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy was not ready to leave her. The governor tweeted, “Ms. Saayoni Ghosh, You have put a condom on a Shivlinga which we Hindus, including me, hold as holiest of holies!”

Adding further to it, he also said that it is a non-bailable offense under Indian penal Code Section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class). Tathagata Roy cautioned, “Now be prepared for the consequences.”

Many users criticized her act and slammed her for double standards. One Twitter user in Bengali wrote, “Shame on your filthy mindset. Kolkata police, take appropriate action against her for distorting the image of the Hindu god. We will not tolerate any insult to Hinduism anymore.”

Meanwhile, in her defense, the actress said that her PR agent Bhaska Roy informed her that her account has been hacked and alleged that it couldn’t be retrieved back until 2017. Calling her tweet obnoxious, she released her statement over Twitter and wrote, “Dear all, a post from 2015 has been brought to my notice which is extremely obnoxious. For all your information, I have joined Twitter in 2010 and after brief use, I lost interest in carrying forward. However, the account remained. After a while, my PR Bhaska Roy intimidated me that my account has been hacked and we need to retrieve it immediately. For various reasons, we could only do that after 2017 and I got back in touch with the Twitter world with a bang,”

She also claimed that she is going to take strict action against the act which hurt the religious sentiment of people.

However, people were not ready to buy her cliché ‘hack theory’. One of the users mentioned that she was uploading the selfies on the same date. Also, while she said her account got retrieved in 2017, a Twitter user shared a thread that mentions that there were tweets from her account promoting her film Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana which was released on October 7, 2016. Assuming that her account was controlled by a hacker, the question comes why would the individual, who earlier tried to malign her image, promote the movies of the actress?

Also, another point that caught the attention was her writing style which made it more difficult for people to believe in her hack theory.  In her all tweets, ‘couldn’t’ was written in one particular way and it was similar on the “obnoxious” tweet also.
