Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan is aghast by some leaders with their “shameless urge to play politics even in the midst of a pandemic.”
In a series of tweets today, Dr Varshan said these leaders have been making irresponsible statements regarding the largest vaccination drives against Coronavirus.
“I’m seeing irresponsible statements from various leaders regarding the largest vaccine drive. Stating facts below so people can judge the intentions of these leaders right .
“After GoI provided 75 per cent of vaccines available for free, vaccination speed picked up and 11.50 cr doses were given in June,” he tweeted.
“States have already been informed in advance about #COVID19Vaccine supplies for July.
“This info was shared with States 15 days prior, along with details about day wise supply. A total of 12 cr doses shall be made available in July. Pvt hospital supply will be over & above this.
“If there are issues in states, it shows that they need to better plan their vaccination drives. Intra-state planning and logistics are the responsibility of the states I request these leaders to desist from their shameless urge to play politics even in the midst of a pandemic,” he added.
Vardhan further attacked the opposition leaders and said that if these leaders are aware of these facts and are still giving such statements.
“I consider it most unfortunate. If they don’t know, they need to focus on governance. Will again request state leaders to spend more energies in planning and not in creating panic,” he said.
‘Over 1.24 crore unutilised doses still with states’
Meanwhile, the health ministry has informed that more than 1.24 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs and over 94,66,420 doses are in the pipeline and will be received by them within the next three days.
Over 32.92 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far through the Government of India (free of cost channel) and the direct state procurement category. Of this, the total consumption, including wastage is 31,67,50,891 doses, the ministry said.
