England players would pull out before IPL playoffs
The second half of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on September 19 in the UAE. However, members of England's T20 World Cup squad will not be available for the playoffs in the IPL.
According to reports, England team management wants their T20 World Cup-bound full squad to be available for the two-match T20I series against Pakistan on October 14 and 15 and will arrive in the country on October 9 to prepare, the very next day the group stage of IPL 2021 ends.
This means Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Chris Woakes, Tom Curran – neither of these players will be available to their franchises if they reach playoffs.
Earlier, several of the England players have already opted out of the upcoming second phase of the IPL which includes, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan, and Jonny Bairstow.
The most hard-hit franchise would be MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings, which has Sam Curran and Moeen Ali and is looking good to qualify for the playoffs with 5 wins already from 7 matches.
Only Royal Challengers Bangalore’s George Carton isn't a part of England's T20 World Cup squad, and hence, will stay put for the entire length of the campaign.
