Ever so quietly, UP is coming to grips with the 2nd Wave of Covid-19

Away from all noise, anxiety and fear, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh seems to be coming to grips with the grave second wave of Coronavirus pandemic.

On April 30, the active ratio in UP was 3,10,783, that is about 25 per cent of all active cases. On May 1, it had come down to 11%, that is out of every 100 positive cases, only 11 were left infected. Besides the 3 lakh plus active cases in 15 days hence have come down to 1.77 lakhs.

The chief minister himself has been on whirlwind tours across districts of state which is one thing. Away from spotlight are a number of measures which is helping the distress of the state.

For instance, the patients in home isolation could demand oxygen support at home if they need so. Several oxygen plants are being set up. Corporate sector too has come out in force. Sugar mills are helping in production of medical oxygen. A global tender for vaccine has been floated.

The threat to UP’s villages is being met aggressively. Preventive measures and vaccination drives are the main thrust.

Village Nigrani Samiti has been formulated in all the gram panchayats. The focus is on cleanliness. Sanitation workers have been hired in every village.

Indeed, the global health body WHO has also lauded the Yogi government’s initiative of house-to-house testing.
