Farmers agree for talks on Tuesday; But still firm on repealing of laws

Protesting farmers at last are willing to talk. It is learnt that 40 farm unions (Kisan Sanyukt Morcha) have asked the Centre to schedule next round of talks next Tuesday, December 29, 11 a.m.

Further, farmers have set a four-point agenda for the next meeting:

1-Repeal Farm Laws;

2-Legally guarantee MSP;

3-Amend NCR air control ordinance;

4-Electricity Bill 2020.

This is virtually back to square one. The last two points the Centre could reconsider but the first two are out of question.

Further, taking a position even before the meeting has commenced is virtually a blackmail if not a certain failure of the Tuesday talk.

The farm union leaders were sent a 10-point proposal by the Centre, assuring to give a written guarantee for MSP, empowering states to create a law to prevent misuse of traders’ registration, continuing current electricity bill payment done by the government and amend the stubble burning penalty clause.

Further, there are many farm unions from around the country who are supporting the Centre on the new farm laws.
