Free vaccine for all citizens of the country, announces Union minister
Following the announcement of BJP of providing free vaccine of Covid-19 in Bihar before assembly elections, Pratap Sarangi, Union minister on Sunday announced a free vaccine for all the citizens of the country.
The opposition had criticised the free vaccine promise of BJP in Bihar where polls for assembly are about to begin on October 28.
Mr. Sarangi, the Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Fisheries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, was responding to a question raised by Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister R.P. Swain.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Swain sought clarification from Dharmendra Pradhan and Mr. Sarangi, the two Union Ministers from Odisha questioning them for their silence on the BJP’s stand on free Covid-19 vaccination for the people of the State along the lines of the one being promised in Bihar.
The governments of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Puducherry have already announced free of cost Covid-19 vaccines in their States.
While addressing the campaign in Balasore for the assembly polls on November 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a free Covid-19 vaccine for all the people of Bihar. The cost of which is expected to be Rs 500 odd for each person.
On October 20, PM Modi had addressed the nation through television, in which he announced that whenever the vaccine is launched, his administration will make sure that it reaches every citizen.
The announcement of the NDA government was criticised by the opposition and it alleged the ruling party of using the Covid-19 situation for political reasons.
