Harbhajan Singh too pulls out of IPL 2020; massive setback to CSK

Harbhajan Singh, the ace off-spinner of India not very long ago and a proven star on the IPL fields, wouldn’t be seen in this year’s edition of the mega league.

According to reports, Harbhajan Singh has pulled out of IPL 2020 for “personal reasons.” It is learnt he conveyed his decision to the Chennai Super Kings’ management on Thursday.

Harbhajan was set to join the team on September 1.

The IPL rules and regulations state a player might not be allowed to return to the competition once he has given a letter to the authorities stating he is pulling out of the tournament and flies back home. This is specifically stringent in the times of Coronavirus pandemic and the attendant quarantine periods and protocols.

It’s another setback to Chennai Super Kings since middle order batsman Suresh Raina had also pulled out earlier from the League. It is learnt that two players—Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad–have also tested positive for Covid-19.

Thus, CSK is yet to hit the ground and have postponed the start of its training sessions while the others are already in full swing in the nets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The IPL, incidentally, is yet to announce its schedule. The opener is likely to be between Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
