How India is ‘unlocking’ itself as Covid-19 second wave recedes?





With India recording steady decline in active coronavirus cases, the states have started gradually moving towards the “unlock” stage. Here is a list of what is allowed after easing of the covid-19.

Delhi

State chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the easing of restrictions across sectors including markets and metro services. According to the latest guidelines, restaurants will be reopened with 50% capacity and there will be only one weekly market per municipal zone. In addition, Delhi Metro officials said services will continue with 50 per cent seating capacity only as per guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Schools and colleges will continue to remain closed.

Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has announced a five-level unlock plan with districts falling under “Level 1” will have the least restrictions, while those in “Level 5” will continue to have strict lockdown. 

Under level 1, malls, theatres, gyms and restaurants can operate normally while in level 2 they can operate with only 50% capacity. Mumbai and Palghar fall under level 2. 

Karnataka

Karnataka, one of the worst-hit states in the second wave of covid -19 in India will begin the process of easing restrictions imposed to stop the rising cases of coronavirus in the state from today barring 11 districts. The restrictions have been relaxed from 6 am to 2 pm in 19 districts instead of the existing 6 am to 10 am. However, the government has clarified only shops selling essential commodities will be allowed to operate. Parks will be open from 5 am to 10 am for walkers and joggers.

Tamil Nadu

The state has eased the lockdown restrictions in 27 districts including Chennai. Tea shops can function 6 am to 5 pm but with only take away services. Restaurants and bakeries have already been allowed to function in the state. Liquor shops will be allowed to function from 10 am to 5 pm.

Haryana

With the consistent decline in the active cases of Covid-19 infections in the past one week, the Haryana government, on Sunday, has issued a few relaxations. Gatherings in weddings, funerals/cremations are allowed upto 21 persons. Weddings can take place at places other than home and courts also. The state government also allowed all shops to open from 9 am to 8 pm.
