India may have already crossed Covid-19 peak, says report of finance ministry

Finance Ministry, in its September economic review report, mentioned that India may have already crossed the Covid-19 peak as the number of daily cases have tended to decline significantly in past one week.

Ministry’s monthly report in their data for the 14 days from September 17 to 30 highlights that India registers a decline in daily positive cases from 93,000 to 83,000 while the daily test count has increased to 1,24,000 from 1,15,000.

However, the Finance Ministry has also warned that though the numbers are declining, the pandemic is still far from over.

“Yet, the declining positivity rate at all-India level sets the stage to further push up the frontiers of economic recovery. For this, all stakeholders need to get into the act as remaining restrictions on access and mobility are further eased.,” the ministry stressed further.

In another positive news, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that India has exceeded the 140 tests per day for per million population by six times, as advised by the World Health Organization.

“WHO in its Guidance Note on “Public Health Criteria to Adjust Public Health and Social Measures in the Context of COVID-19″ has advised that a country needs 140 tests/day/million population for comprehensive surveillance of suspected cases… India has exceeded 140 tests/day/million population as advised by the WHO by nearly six times. Several States/UTs have demonstrated better performance than the national average” tweeted the ministry.

After the United States, India is the second worst-hit country with 6,549,373 cases.
