Mamata visits mosque to pray for win in by-polls
Ahead of the crucial Bhabanipur by-polls, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the constituency's Sola Ana Masjid on Monday to ‘seek blessings’ for her victory. The constituency will go for polls on September 30 with results to be declared three days later October 3.
In state assembly election this year, Banerjee had vacated her traditional seat of Bhabanipur to contest the Assembly polls from Nandigram against her former deputy and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari but she lost to Adhikari by a margin of nearly 2,000 votes.
It must be noted that three wards—63, 77, and 82, of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which falls under Bhabanipur constituency, has nearly 45% cent Muslim electorates
Commenting on Banerjee's sudden visit, BJP's Suvendu Adhikari said, "BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal got such a good response on the first day of her campaign that it forced Mamata Banerjee to start her campaign from a mosque. It clearly shows as to votes of which section she is relying on to rule Bengal and to win Bhabanipur".
BJP has chosen its Bengal youth wing vice-president - Priyanka Tibrewal to take on the Trinamool chief at Bhabanipur.
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya also take a dig on Mamata. He wrote, "If you thought Bhabanipur was a "no contest" and Mamata Banerjee was confident of winning hands down, forget it."
"She [Mamata Banerjee] is sweating. This visit to Sola Ana Masjid is not "sudden" but a planned visit to seek votes from ward 77.”
