Plot thickens in Rajasthan: BJP to move no-confidence motion on Friday

Even though Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and rebel Sachin Pilot now seem to be standing on the same platform, after the intervention of Congress high command, it appears that twists and turns in this story haven’t quite died down.

Gulab Chand Kataria of the Bharatiya Janata Party and leader of opposition said on Thursday that a no-confidence motion would be moved in the Rajasthan assembly on Friday against the Congress government.

The decision was taken during a BJP legislature party meeting in Jaipur today.

The meeting was attended by Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, national general secretary Muralidhar Rao, state BJP president Satish Poonja, national vice presidents Avinash Rai Khanna and Vasundhara Raje, national joint general secretary V Satish and Kataria.

Poonja is reported to have said in the meeting that the state government is struggling on many fronts and hence the party would move a no-confidence motion.

Kataria said that for over a month now, the Gehlot government has been camping in hotels, ignoring the ambitious Central government schemes for the state.

The revolt by Pilot and 18 other rebels had left Gehlot with 102 MLAs, just one above the majority mark in the 200-member Rajasthan assembly.

The BJP has 72 MLAs and need 30 more to take power.
