PM releases more than Rs 20,000 crore for 9.5 crore farmers in 8th installment





Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released the eighth installment of minimum financial benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme via video conferencing, disbursing more than Rs 20,000 crore to more than 9.5 crore farmer families. 

For the first time, farmers in West Bengal have joined the scheme, and about 7 lakh Bengal farmers received their first installment today.

After transferring the fund, the prime minister had interacted with farmers from Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh and said that around Rs 1.35 lakh crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers under the PM-KISAN and Rs 60,000 crore during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Prime Minister also mentioned that “about 10 percent more wheat has been purchased at Minimum Support Price (MSP) as compared to last year”.

“So far, about 58,000 crores of wheat procurement has reached the farmers’ account directly”.

 While releasing the installment, PM Modi also touched upon the ongoing covid-19 vaccination drive in the country, saying that governments on all levels are making efforts to vaccinate their citizens. 

“About 18 crore vaccine doses have been given so far, both Centre and states are making efforts to vaccinate all citizens,” he added. 

PM-KISAN scheme provides a financial benefit of ₹6000 per year to the eligible beneficiary farmer families. It is payable in three equal 4-monthly installments of ₹2,000 each. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
