Rahul Gandhi’s yatras in ‘support of middlemen’: Smriti Irani

The day after Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi government over the agriculture bill, Bhartiya Janata Party’s leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani returned the favour with a scathing remark. The Union Minister said that Gandhi “lives in a dream world where he thinks he is a king.”

While hitting at Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani said his yatras are not for farmers but in support of “middlemen who looted the country.”

When Gandhi opposes the Agri bills, Irani further asked, “does he also oppose the proposition that farmer will be paid within three days of selling their produce, that they are free to sell them anywhere in the country and that their land cannot be used in the recovery process in any case”.

She said it is no surprise that they are supporting middlemen as his party and family’s politics have always been dependent on these middlemen who looted the country. Congress has failed farmers and the entire agriculture landscape several times, she added further.

She presented her facts and mentioned how the procurements of paddy jumped to 1.4 lakh crore under NDA while only 40,000 crores were spent by the UPA government in 2013-14.
