V Narayanasamy, chief minister of Puducherry announced on Friday that his administration would make available the vaccine of Covid-19 for all the citizens of the state free of cost.

“Vaccines were given free to people for smallpox and polio. It is our stand that vaccines should be given to everyone. We will vaccinate everyone in Puducherry whether the Centre provides us with funds or not,” said Narayanaswamy while addressing the media after the inauguration of cyclone shelters in Karaikal's coastal villages.

This would’ve embarrassed Rahul Gandhi for Narayanaswamy is a chief minister of his own Congress party. Rahul had slammed the offer of BJP of provide free Covid-19 vaccine in Bihar in their manifesto.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh had also announced Covid-19 vaccine free of cost for all based on the declaration of his party in Bihar. On Twitter, he wrote, "India is working fast to prepare a vaccine. As soon as the vaccine is ready, every person of Madhya Pradesh will get it for free." But he deleted his tweet later and rephrased it and said, 'free vaccine is for poor'.

Edappadi K. Palaniswami, chief minister of Tamil Nadu also announced on Thursday that the vaccine will be provided free to all state citizens. The government of Tamil Nadu announced ahead of Assembly elections to be held next year.
