She shoplifted and made millions of dollars for 19 long years
A woman from Texas has been sent to prison for 54 months for selling shoplifted merchandise worth millions of dollars on eBay.
63-year-old Kim Richardson, shoplifted merchandise from all the places she travelled in the United States between August 2000 and April 2019.
To carry the stolen items, Richardson always kept a big black bag with her, and to fool the security system, she carried shoplifting tools as well.
She did most of the job including, mailing and packing the stolen items.
The platform she used to make the sale was eBay and shipped the items using US mail services like United Parcel Service and Federal Express.
It was noted by the court that it would be very difficult to find out her victims as the scam is 19-year-long.
Richardson accepted all the charges in the court.
Around $3.8 million were credited into four different PayPal accounts of Richardson by the buyers.
A news release said, "U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen ordered her to serve a total of 54 months in federal prison to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release."
She has agreed to pay the whole amount in restitution which is almost $3.8 million.
In December 2019, she had pleaded guilty in front of the court.
The release further said, she was allowed to remain on bond and voluntarily surrender to a US Bureau of Prisons facility which will be determined in the near future.
A woman in November 2019 had tried to steal from a cloth store by wearing 8 pairs of jeans once. A video was made when she was asked to remove all those jeans by the authorities, that video received a lot of views on social media.
