Union minister Smriti Irani lashed out at Rahul Gandhi for his second attempt to visit Hathras in Uttar Pradesh within three days amid the protest over the alleged murder of a 20-year-old woman after being gang-raped.

About the Congress leader's move, Irani said to reporters that "People are aware of Congress's tactics... That's why they ensured a historic win for the BJP in the 2019 elections."

The BJP leader, Smriti Irani also added that "I cannot stop a leader in a democratic nation but people understand that their visit to Hathras is for their politics and not for justice to the victim."

Smriti Irani's car was stopped by some Congress workers in Varanasi because they were unhappy with her comments and they also chanted slogans, "Smriti Irani go back" and "we seek justice." They were also detained after for this misconduct.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had tweeted today earlier in Hindi that "Nothing would be able to stop him from meeting the victim's family."

Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Hathras along with sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to meet the grieving family.

As per a senior official, borders of the village have been opened only for the reporters after 48 hours.

Prem Prakash Meena, Joint Magistrate at Hathras told ANI, a news agency that, "Rahul Gandhi is not allowed... currently the arrival of any political party leader is banned." She also added, "when orders come to allow delegations, we will let everybody know."

The Yogi Adityanath government will ensure justice for the victim's family, said Smriti Irani.
