Twitter erupts in anger as bigoted historian Truschke is defended by her Varsity

Twitter is erupting with hashtag #Racist Rutgers calling out the historian Audrey Truschke for her “hatred, bigotry and racism against Hindus.”

It began trending on the micro-blogging site after Rutgers University issued a statement trying to give Truschke a clean chit. They termed it “academic freedom.”

The University’s statement came on the heels of a petition initiated by a group of students asking them to take strong action against Truschke for demonising Hinduism. The petition was shared on twitter by the “Hindu on Campus” group.

In an open letter, the students said they were “aghast at the bigotry being peddled against Hindus via continued derision of our religion, our deities, and our sacred texts in the university, which may be a potential threat to their security, as it may lead to “potential attacks, bullying, and backlash, either on campus or via social media, due to our faith”.

The petition claimed the professor had falsely linked Hindus with rioters at Capitol Hill recently. She claimed that Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the holy book of the Hindus, “rationalizes mass slaughter” and violence. Truschke insulted Hindu god and goddesses by calling Lord Ram a “misogynistic pig”.

Truschke has in the past dubbed Hindus as “lustful and sex-obsessed” and “cow-piss drinkers”. It had termed the faith of a billion as inherently oppressive, racist, misogynistic and violent. She has also whitewashed Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb. The students posed a teaser to the University administration what if she or others characterise Prophet Muhammad, Jesus or any other central religious figure or sacred literature in a similar ghastly, bigoted way.

Truschke had a rating of 1.7 out of 5 at the Rate My Professors website where students took a call on their professors. Students left comments like “horrible teacher”, “egoistic” and “nightmare” among other epithets.
