In a fast developing story, CBI deputy director, Delhi Police Commissioner and the Intelligence Bureau chief were summoned by the Supreme Court today for a chamber meeting after the Court went through the contents of the affidavit submitted by advocate Utsav Bains.

It must be remembered that Utsav Bains had alleged a massive conspiracy against the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi after a former woman-staffer alleged sexual misconduct on the part of CJI last week.

The day began when Bains submitted information regarding the alleged conspiracy to the bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Rohinton Nariman and Deepak Gupta in a sealed envelope. The bench, after going through the content, termed it as very serious.

Justice Arun Mishra commented that it appears the plan was to stop the CJI in his tracks since he had been taking some bold actions lately.

Bains claimed he knew exactly how the whole thing was planned and he would soon file another affidavit in this regard.

Bains was emphatic that police wouldn’t be of any help in the matter as “it is under the State which is ruled by some political party.” He was reacting to the appeal of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who wanted a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the issue.

Senior advocate Indira Jaising tried to intervene but the Bench refused to give her audience. “We should be more concerned about what is there in the affidavit,” said the bench, adding it wouldn’t be declaring the contents of the affidavit for now.

After meeting the Delhi Police commissioner, IB chief and CBI deputy director, which began at 12.30 this afternoon, the Bench is scheduled to re-assemble at 3 p.m.

The court has also directed that Utsav Bains be provided adequate protection.
