Yogi now turns on the heat on mafia don Mukhtar Ansari





After the elimination of dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh police is pulling all stops to sap another big name in the crime world, Mukhtar Ansari, of his muscle and money.

Following a series of crackdowns, the district magistrate of Ghaziur, OP Arya has claimed that Rs 33.8 crores of illegal occupation has been freed from Ansari and his associates. Cancelled licences have yielded 33 weapons. At least 17 gangsters and associates identified with Ansari have either been arrested or are on run.

Last week Ravindra Nishad, a fish mafia tycoon, has his properties attached by the Jaunpur district administration orders.

On July 3, the UP police caught a truck loaded with fish illegally brought from Andhra Pradesh into Jaunpur. Nishad had been in this illegal business of fish running into crores, allegedly under the protection from Mukhtar Ansari. Nishad, and his Andhra associate B. Narang Rao have been arrested.

The properties of Nishad attached are estimated Rs 3.71 crores on market value. His pick-up trucks, house, hope and a shopping mall, under constructed, besides several bank accounts have also been seized.

In Ghazipur, arm licences of four alleged associates of Ansari have been cancelled. Properties of one Brijesh Sonkar, alleged shooter in service of Ansari, has also been sealed.

On July 5, a godown under the name of M/s Vikas Constructors which has Ansari’s wife Afsa Begun and his brother-in-law Atif Raja as shareholders, was demolished.

So far, at least 20 alleged members of Ansari’s gang have been booked under the Gangsters Act.

Ansari, an MLA for five terms from Mau constituency was expelled by his party Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 2010 but later was back in favour and won the 2017 assembly elections again from Mau.

He was arrested for the murder of BJP leader Krishnanand Rai but was acquitted by the CBI court in 2019 after the witness turned hostile. Rai had defeated Ansari’s brother and five-time MLA Afzal Ansari from Mohammadabad constituency in the 2002 UP assembly elections.

Rai was later shot dead in public along with his six aides. The attackers fired over 400 bullets from six AK-47 rifles, 67 bullets were recovered from the slain seven bodies.

His grandfather Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari was once the president of the Indian National Congress and Muslim League.
