Assaulted for raising ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans in Bengal, says BJP leader

While the West Bengal gears up for the second phase elections, the political violence doesn’t seem to end anytime soon. In another case,  in the Jalpaiguri district, the BJP party office was reportedly vandalized.

Considering the reports by News18, BJP leader Subhash Rai has accused that Trinamool Congress (TMC) ‘goons’ assaulted his party workers for raising ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans during the Holi celebrations.

The BJP unit in the state blamed Trinamool Congress activists for the attack. They have also accused TMC workers of beating its office-bearers.

The leader also informed that when workers chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ it irked the TMC goons and they not only vandalised the party office but their vehicles also.

In West Bengal, “Jai Shri Ram” has become the centrespot of controversy with multiple reports emerging about.

In 2019, a BJP worker was seriously injured after being shot by TMC goons for chanting Jai Shri Ram.

The slogan seems to disturb the state’s ruling party so much so that one of the party leader in the undated video can be heard saying that chanting Jai Shri Ram would not be allowed in the TMC-ruled state and if people wanted to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ they can move to Gujarat.

Not only the party workers, even the chief minister Mamata Banerjee herself gets so triggered every time she hears the slogan. During the 2019 campaign, Banerjee described it as a term of abuse and in January, this year, she threw a hissy fit when a section of the crowd taunted her with Jai Shree Ram at an event in Kolkata. She even  lamented of “being disrespected”.
