BJP announces incharges for polls in 4 States in April-May





With elections inching closer, BJP chief J P Nadda has appointed party leaders as in charge and co-incharges in Assam, Puducherry, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. 

For Assam, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has been made in charge and MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh has been made co in-charge. Incidentally, Dr Singh holds the portfolio of Department of North East Region (DONER) in the Central ministry. 

Union MoS Home G Kishan Reddy will look after the elections in Tamil Nadu and his co in charge is V K Singh, MoS Road Transport & Highways. 

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi will be in charge of polls in Kerala and he will be assisted by Karnataka Deputy CM Dr Ashwathnarayan. 

Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS for Parliamentary Affairs, will be in charge of elections in Puducherry and he will be assisted by party’s Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

In Assam, the party had won 86/126 assembly seats in the last elections held in 2016. The Congress, which was ruling the state till then, had won only 26 seats. 

In West Bengal, another poll-bound state, the BJP is keen on ousting Trinamool Congress government headed by Mamata Banerjee. Many Trinamool leaders have joined the BJP in the recent past giving it a boost.

In southern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, the BJP is a marginal player. However, it is keen on improving it’s footprint in these areas.
