BJP names ‘TMC goons’ who allegedly killed its worker in Birbhum; wants EC to bar them

Bharatiya Janata Party has named the people who it alleges killed one of its worker, Bapi Ankure, in Birbhum, West Bengal on Tuesday night and complained to Election Commission that they be barred from electioneering so as to ensure that voters are able to exercise their power to vote without any intimidation.

The body of the 24-year-old BJP worker was found near a river in Birbhum’s Ilambazar area on Tuesday—on the bank of Shal river at Nadas village—which his father, Nirmal Ankure, in a police complaint, has claimed is a murder.

The BJP’s complaint to the EC names Anubrata Mondol as the “Trinamool goon” who had caused the murder. Those named alongside him are Faizul Rehman, Dulal Roy, SK Shaukat, Mujiur Rehman, AK Nazir among others for causing the cold-blooded murder.

BJP has termed it a “cold-blooded murder of democracy” where those adhering to different ideologies or political affiliations are not allowed to express their political dissent. “So much so that the father of the victim…is living in perpetual fear for his mortal existence and is constantly receiving death threats.”

“it is plainly apparent that the Trinamool Congress is planning to manipulate the upcoming elections by brazenly indulging in booth-capturing, rigging and intimidation of voters and other illegal and criminal acts…so they don’t turn up to vote for the upcoming elections,” says the complaint.

BJP has pleaded to EC that the aforesaid Trinamool leaders are barred from further campaigning in the ensuing elections and/or appoint “special observers monitoring the daily activities of these leaders till the date of declaration of results to ensure free and fair elections are held in every polling booth in West Bengal.”
