BJP set to retain Uttar Pradesh, says Times Now opinion poll

The Bharatiya Janata Party is slated to retain power in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the upcoming assembly elections, as per an opinion poll conducted for Time Now network. 

The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to win between 230-249 seats out of 403 in Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) may emerge as the second biggest party and could bag 137-152 seats. BSP is projected to get a mere 80-14 seats while Congress could slump to 6-11 seats. 

Yogi Adityanath was the favourite choice as chief ministerial candidate with 53 per cent of the respondents rooting for him, followed by Akhilesh Yadav (32 percent), Mayawati (13 percent), and Priyanka Gandhi (2.5 percent).

If the projections turn out to be accurate, Yogi Adityanath will become the first chief minister in Uttar Pradesh to serve two consecutive terms since 1985.

Responding to whether people are happy with CM Yogi’s work, 47.41 percent of the respondents said yes, 41.20 percent said no, and 11.39 percent were undecided. 

Additionally, 47 percent of the respondents indicated that the biggest accomplishment of the Adityanath-led government was the betterment of law and order situation. The majority of respondents also believe that farmer protest will not be a deciding factor in the upcoming polls, and 48 percent of those surveyed feel that the Yogi government is not anti-farmers. 

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party is the most preferred political outfit amongst the Muslims in UP.

For Uttrakhand, Times Now Opinion Poll predicted BJP to win and wrest around 44-50 seats, while Congress could manage 12-15, and AAP manage 5-8. Pushkar Singh Dhami is the most preferred CM candidate in Uttarakhand.
