BJP to win 4 states; Punjab a hung assembly: Republic TV poll

The Bharatiya Janta Party is likely to retain power in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand the 2022 Assembly polls.

According to the Republic TV-PMARQ Opinion Poll, under the leadership of UP CM Yogi Adityanath, BJP looks safe when it comes to attaining a majority in the 403-member legislative assembly. The saffron party is likely to emerge as the single largest party with 252-272 seats.

However, the opinion poll also suggested that Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party will emerge as a major challenger to the BJP and may win 111-131.

Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party seems to be headed to lose ground with 8-16 seats.

The similar trends will be visible in Uttarakhand as well. The BJP may win 36-42 seats (39.9 per cent votes), The seats would go down from 56, which it won in 2017, but still form the government with majority.  Manipur is also likely to go the BJP way as it may win 31-37 seats (39.2 per cent votes) in a House of 60 while Congress may win only 13-19.

Goa will also continue its with BJP, which is likely to win 16-20 in the 40-member House. On the other hand, Indian National Congress, which was the single largest party in the 2017 assembly elections, is likely to get 9-13.

Punjab may witness a hung assembly as Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party might win 50-56 seats, just short of the majority mark. The ruling Congress is predicted to win 42-48 seats while Shiromani Akali Dal can get 1-17 seats. BJP, who is fighting polls in alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and SAD (Sanyukt), can win 1-3 seats.  In the Opinion poll comes true, then AAP may consider an alliance with SAD and other shammer parties.
