BJP’s vote share in UP is even bigger than in 2017; AAP has more than Punjab to rave about

Even as Yogi Adityanath gets another five-year term at the helm of India’s most populous and politically most vital state Uttar Pradesh, the noticeable point was that the BJP bagged 44.6 per cent of the vote by 1 p.m, a significant 5 per cent improvement over the 2017 polls.

This is the first government to get re-elected in UP in 37 years. Considerable increase in BJP’s vote share. From 39.7% in the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections to 42.8% in 2019.

“BJP knows how to get votes so they won, but we are revolutionaries. Whichever govt comes, they should fulfill our demands. The new govt should work for farmers”, says Rakesh Tikait.

Home to about a fifth of India’s 135 crore people, UP sends the most legislators to parliament of any state.A majority for the BJP would make it the first party to get a consecutive second term in more than three decades.

“Many a jinx has been broken in these elections. First, that no govt returns in UP. Second, that incumbency can also win elections. Third, under Modi it’s been proven that elections can be fought under Development focus, rather than caste,” says MoS Jitendra Singh
