Congress joins hands with Left parties for West Bengal polls

Congress has decided that it would forget an alliance with the Left parties in the forthcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, it was announced by its leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday.

Chowdhury announced on twitter that the party’s high command has taken the decision.

Chowdhury had earlier alleged that Mamata Banerjee of Trinamool Congress had paved the way for the saffron party in the state. He mentioned the 1999 Lok Sabha polls alliance between the two parties.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Trinamool won 211 seats while Congress had won 44 and Left parties 26. The BJP had won only 3 assembly seats. BJP though had made a stunning show in the 2019 General Elections, winning 18 of the 42 seats.
