Did Suresh Raina go unsold for he fell out with MS Dhoni?

Did Suresh Raina miss out on being picked by Chennai Super Kings in the coming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) because he was no longer in good books of captain MS Dhoni?

That’s the impression of former New Zealand fast bowler and now a commentator Simon Doull who said in an interview so:

“There are two to three parts to it. He lost his loyalty in the UAE, we don’t need to go on (and talk about) why it was. There’s enough speculation about that. He lost the loyalty of the team and he lost the loyalty of MS Dhoni. Once you do that, you’re very unlikely to be welcomed back,”

Rana went unsold in the two-day auction for Bangaluru in IPL last week.

Raina was part of CSK since the tournament’s inaugural edition. Only for two years, (2016-2017) he couldn’t as the franchise was banned. In these two years he played for Gujarat Lions.

He had skipped the 2020 due to personal reasons and in 2021, he missed the latter stages of the tournament due to a knee injury.

Raina, who announced his international retirement on the same day as Dhoni, is the fourth all-time run-getter in the IPL, amassing 5,528 runs in 205 matches.

Raina also won four IPL titles, all with CSK, including last season.
