The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken into custody M Sivasankar, former secretary of Kerala’s chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the high profile diplomatic gold smuggling case, as per Hindustan Times.
ED moved to take Sivasankar into custody after Kerala High Court rejected the bail plea of the suspended IAS officer today. Both ED and the Customs had opposed the bail plea, asserting that Sivasankar was aware of smuggling activities of prime accused in the case, Swapna Suresh.
Sivasankar was arrested from an Ayurveda hospital where he was admitted. The Customs said he was pretending to be ill to avoid grilling by the agencies in the smuggling case.
It should be noted that the ED has also accused Sivasankar of helping Suresh in money laundering.
