Ex Muslims of India to support those who wish to leave Islam

A group of individuals in Kerala, who have left Islam, announced that they have formed a new organisation called ExMuslims of Kerala and have decided to celebrate January 9 as Kerala ExMuslim Day every year.

Liyakkathali, President of the organisation, in their official statement mentions that the organisation aims to provide legal, moral and social support to those who want to leave the religion.

“The problems faced by the Ex-Muslims just for renouncing their religion is unmatched, when compared to other faiths. They are often appalling both mentally and physically and are subjected to ostracization in all realms of social existence. This is the reason why an Organisation for Ex-Muslims became indispensable to safeguard their human rights, dignity and to ensure the constitutional rights promised by the country,” he added.

Liyakkathali also said he had abandoned Islam two years back “after I realized the hollowness of religion.”

The organisation also plans to approach judicial authorities against all atrocities committed in the name of religious traditions or practises that violate basic human rights.

According to the members of the organisation, the reason behind choosing January 9 traces to last year when on the same day a debate between M.M. Akbar, an Islamic Dawah propagandist, and EA Jabbar, a freethinker and critic of Islam was organised in Malappuram.

The debate awakened many Muslims to the inhumanity and futility of Islam. The awareness led them to leave the religion and work towards nurturing ‘free thought and scientific temper’ in Kerala society.

ExMuslims of Kerala conduct several discussions on Islam and Atheism on social media and also conduct public debates with Islamic scholars.
