Fake Video: Intrepid reporter lays bare communal agenda in Uttar Pradesh

The Ghaziabad Police has booked a local Samajwadi Party leader Umed Pahalwan Idrisi on charges of “spreading communal hatred” via social media in connection with the assault case of Abdul Samad Saifi, an elderly Muslim man.

The police have filed an FIR against the SP leader, accusing him of making the assault video go viral “on religious grounds” without checking its authenticity first.

FIR also states that Facebook did not fact-check the video and allowed it to be shared.

According to the FIR, Idrisi has been charged under sections 153A (promoting enmity), 295A (outraging religious feelings), 504 (insult), 505 (intent to incite), and 67 (transmitting obscene material online). The case was registered at the Loni Border police station.

In the video, the man, Abdul Samad Saifi, alleged that the accused offered him an auto ride, took him to an isolated spot and beat him up, forcing him to chant Jai Shri Ram.

However, police have said the accused beat him up because he had sold them a “tabeez (amulet)” that they believed did not work. The arrested accused have been identified as Parvesh Gujjar, Adil, and Kallu.

Sharing the details of the event, journalist Swati Sharma also made shocking revelations in a long Twitter thread. She informed that even when the incident happened on June 5, Saifi didn’t report his complaint to the police. It was after Umed Pahalwan’s Facebook live with Abdul in which he claimed that he was beaten and was forced to chant Jai Shri Ram slogans, police came to know about the assault and started an investigation.

Ghaziabad SP Iraj Raja, confirming the same, told Sharma that despite several reminders, Saifi did not come to the police station even once. He further told Swati that he only came once on June 14 but left after complaining of stomach ache. He even revealed that even in the actual video he couldn’t hear Saifi being forced to chant the Jai Shri Ram slogan rather it was Parvesh and others accusing Abdul of cheating them.

She also shared the copy of the statement given by Saifi to Ghaziabad police, informing that there was no mention of Jai Shri Ram’s slogans at all. Saifi even failed to identify any of his attackers, despite knowing them for the past three months. But Parvesh’s maternal aunt told that Saifi had been visiting his family for the last three months.

So far five accused – Kalloo Gurjar, Parvesh Gurjar, Adil, Intezaar, and Saddam alias Bauna – have been arrested in connection with the attack on Saifi.
