First marriage at 95! Honeymoon? Australia

A 95-year-old man who got married for the first time in his life has shown that age is no bar when it comes to love.

Julian Moyle married 84-year-old Valerie Williams on May 19 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Cardiff in the UK. The couple met at the church 23 years ago but Julian proposed to Valerie only in February this year.

Talking about their marriage, Julian told WalesOnline, “I think it’s marvellous.” He said that the occasion was “like a new year.”

“She’s so kind and giving, you know, loving and giving,” Julian said of his wife.

He added, “I’m looking forward very much to your companionship.”

The couple plans to go to Australia for their honeymoon later in the year.

“Just being together. Be lovely. Julian plans on going to Australia later in the year,” Valerie said.

Julian added, “With you, though.”

Valerie said, “But, this is going to be our honeymoon. It’s going to be delayed.”

“To show her off. To show Mrs Moyle off. Yes,” Julian said.

When the nonagenarian said, “I can’t remember any other marriages,” people broke into laughter.

Julian emigrated from Australia to the UK in 1954 and was the first soloist in the Welsh National Opera between 1970 and 1982.

Commemorating Julian’s operatic career, an opera performance was organised on their wedding day.

The wedding ceremony was attended by around 40 guests.
