Bharatiya Janata Party MP Gautam Gambhir tweeted a quote by Bhagat Singh. He wrote, “I am a man and all that affects mankind concerns me – Sardar Bhagat Singh.”
His tweet came hours after Delhi’s Drug Controller Thursday told the Delhi High Court Gautam Gambhir Foundation was involved in “unauthorised purchase/procurement, stocking and distribution”
The Drug Control said that Gambhir’s foundation does not hold any drug license as required by the law for the purchase, stocking or distribution of the drugs.
“By doing so, M/S Gautam Gambhir Foundation has contravened the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 & Rules thereunder and therefore have committed an offence which is prosecutable/punishable under Section 27 (b) (iii) and 27 (d) of the said Act,” said the Drugs Control Department in an investigation report placed before the court.
The Drug controller further told HC that not just Gambhir’s cases, all other cases brought under the notice of the Drug Controller found to breach the Rules.
Meanwhile, Gambhir had said his foundation bought 2,343 strips of the drug and they were distributed free of cost to attendants of Covid-19 patients against the prescription produced by them, adding that “unprecedented and desperate situations call for desperate measures and remedies”.
The offence carries a punishment of five years in jail.
The drug controller has to file status reports within six weeks. The next court hearing will be on July 29.
