Hansa Research goes against Mumbai Police in HC; allege being bullied

Hansa Research Group has accused the Mumbai Police of harassing its staff aimed at forcing them to give false statements against Republic TV. It has also moved the Bombay High Court seeking transfer of a case relating to alleged manipulation of TRP ratings from Mumbai Police to CBI.

In a writ petition filed in the court, the Hansa Research has alleged that the Mumbai Police was harassing its employees to force them to issue a statement against Republic TV. The Mumbai Police is coercing some of its employees to say that a document published by Republic TV as “Hansa Report” is a fake document, it is alleged.

This report named India Today as a media house which was involved in bribery of households to boost TRP ratings. It does not name Republic TV as alleged by the Mumbai Police in a FIR registered regarding alleged TRP bribery case.

The petition says that the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police has threatened the petitioners with arrest. They were also pressed for making false statements against Republic TV, it added.

The petition has been moved by Hansa Group Director Narasimhan K Swamy and two others. Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh, Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze and ACP Shashank Sanbhlor have been named as respondents in the petition.

The group has sought immediate intervention of the high court and provide it relief prayed for. It has said that the court should order transfer of the investigation in the case to CBI and also restrain the Mumbai Police from harassing its employees.
