Haryana grants martyr’s status to DSP allegedly killed by illegal mining mafia

DSP Surendar Singh Bishnoi

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced an amount of Rs 1 crore to be given to the family of the DSP killed by the mining mafia in Nuh. Further, one member of his family will be given job while DSP Surendar Singh Bishnoi would be given a martyr’s status by the state government.

“Our condolences go out to the bereaved family. A total of Rs 1 crore would be provided in compensation to the kin of the martyred police officer. We would also provide a job to one of his family members,” Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar said.

Notably, DSP Surendra Singh Bishnoi was killed by the mining mafia in Haryana’s Nuh by crushing him with a dumper. The incident took place in Pachgaon village under the Tauru police station area. Bishnoi had gone to inspect the area for illegal mining along with his team. This particular area is known for illegal mining.

ADG Ravi Kiran, IGP south range noted that DSP Surendar Singh Bishnoi had come to the area for a surprise inspection based on a tip-off and didn’t take a backup force with him. “He had come for a surprise inspection based on a tip-off. Didn’t come with backup force as he may not have found time for it. He was run over by the accused. No weapons used,” Ravi Kiran said.

On the other hand, Haryana Mining Minister Mool Chand Sharma refuted the involvement of the mining mafia in the murder of DSP Surendar Singh Bishnoi saying that the locals were involved in the incident. ‘It is not a mining site, it’s a forest area and its seems local had come with the intention of stealing stones,” he said.

Mool Chand Sharma further assured that ‘strict action will be taken against the accused.’ “I want to tell people to have faith in CM Manohar Lal Khattar and us, we will take strict actions against the accused. We also had discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” Sharma said.

“We will not spare anyone. Strict actions will be taken against the accused. Rs 50 lakhs is given to police personnel from the bank & govt will also give Rs 50 lakhs to the family of the deceased DSP. The entire police team was with the DSP when he was killed. They went there to raid. Haryana DGP is about to reach and he is keeping a close watch on the entire incident,” Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said.
