IMA warns Kerala govt against Covid-19 relaxations due to Bakri Eid

Indian Medical Association warns Kerala government to undo its easing of restrictions ahead of Bakri Eid even as the state is reporting the highest Covid-19 positives every day as well as the number of fatalities.

If the order was not withdrawn, the IMA said in a statement, they would be constrained to move the Supreme Court against the Kerala government order.

“It is unwarranted and inappropriate at this time of Medical emergency. When many northern states like J&K, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal have stopped, with a constructive sense of public safety the traditional and popular pilgrimage Yatras, it’s unfortunate to learn that state of Kerala has taken these retrograde decisions, said the IMA.

Kerala government has relaxed lockdown guidelines from today which would continue till July 20. Shops and malls would remain opened. Last year too, during the Ramzan Eid when the pandemic was raging across the nation, Kerala govt had lifted the restrictions.

Kerala reported over 10,000 positives and 144 deaths on Saturday. As of now, Kerala and Maharashtra contribute over 60% of total new Covid cases. Its’ positivity rate is above 10%.

The IMA stated that the Supreme Court of India has taken a suo motu cognisance of the issue and everyone should respond to the situation.

The IMA stated that the Kerala government should immediately withdraw the order, enforce zero-tolerance against non-adherence to Covid-19 regulations and do not deviate from its statutory duty and vision to ensure the safety of state and nation as a whole.
