Infection limited to less than 2%, decline of 27% in cases since May 7





The Union Health Ministry’s Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal, sharing the positive trends, informed the media that the government has successfully contained the spread of the Covid-19 infection under 2% of the population. 

“1.8 per cent of the total population of India has been affected by the disease so far. We have been able to contain the spread of the infection to under 2 percent of the population,” stated the Health Ministry.

He further added that the country has recorded a drop in cases by 27% as compared to the highest peak of single-day cases recorded on May 7. India reported over 2,63,000 fresh covid-19 cases in a span of 24 hours, a  significant drop from 4.14 lakh recorded on May 7. 

He also informed that the country recorded the highest recoveries 4,22,436 in the past 24 hours.

“On May 3, the percentage of active cases was 17 per cent. We are seeing a positive trend in recovery rate too. In the last 24 hours, 4,22,426 Covid-19 patients have recovered. This is the highest daily recovery figure so far,” said Lav Agarwal

“The pandemic curve is stabilising in many states. There is a mixed picture but overall there is stabilisation. The overall R0 number is now below 1, indicating that the pandemic is shrinking,” said Dr VK Paul, Member Niti Aayog.

In terms of active cases, there are still eight states that have more than one lakh active cases, but the states including Maharashtra, UP, Delhi, Bihar, MP and Chhattisgath have also shown a sharp decline in fresh cases and positivity rate. 

The ministry informed that a total of 199 districts in the country are showing a continuous decline in cases since the last two weeks.
