J & K: Senior citizens, children, common man provided with financial aid in Covid-19 times





Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha announced that senior citizens, who lost only earning members of their family due to covid-19, will be provided a special pension for life and special scholarship for children who have lost their parents.

“The J&K government has taken several measures to help those who unfortunately lost their loved ones to Covid. Senior citizens who have lost only one earning member of the family will be provided a special pension for life. Children who have lost their parents to the pandemic will be provided with special scholarships by the government,” Sinha’s office announced on Twitter.

The government said that they are trying to reach every such family and they will be provided with financial assistance for self-employment.

“At a time when this global pandemic has rendered daily workers jobless, the government has decided to provide Rs 1,000 per month to all registered construction workers, ponywalas, palkhiwala, pithawala for the next two months,” it added.

Apart from this government has directed all officers concerned to ensure the supply of rations to all ration card holders on priority. 

The LG also announced that installments of social welfare schemes will be released soon. “Installments of social welfare schemes like old-age pension, ‘Laadli Beti’ etc and PMAY, MGNREGA and other welfare schemes will be released immediately,” it said. 

“Our biggest priority is to defeat this pandemic. I urge all of you to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated. We will soon prevail together over this pandemic,” it added.

Sinha said all deputy commissioners will be asked to issue death certificates to the people who died due to Covid on priority and ₹55 crore will be released, of which ₹2 crore will be released to all 20 DCs, ₹5 crore to both divisional commissioners and ₹5 crore to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for emergency use under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)
