Javadekar slams Rahul Gandhi: 2021, and not 2024, when all Indians would be vaccinated

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said all Indians would be vaccinated against the coronavirus disease by the end of this year.

“India’s vaccination will be completed before 2021. The Health Ministry has given a blueprint. 108 crore people – with 216 crore doses – will be vaccinated by December. Rahulji… if you’re concerned about vaccination then pay attention to Congress ruled states… there is a mess. They are not taking the quota given to them for 18-44 year old beneficiaries from May 1,” Mr. Javadekar said.

Earlier today, Gandhi, in a virtual press conference, targeted the Central government and said India would be able to vaccinate everyone only by May 2024.

Javadekar slammed Gandhi and said the kind of language the Congress leader used and the way he tried to stoke “fears” has confirmed that the “toolkit” was produced by his party.

“India has administered 20 crore vaccines so far and ranks second in terms of jabs administered. If Rahul Gandhi is indeed worried about vaccination rates, he should concentrate on how Congress-governed states are conducting their respective vaccination drives. Those states have not been able to vaccinate people aged between 18-45 years even though quotas were assigned to them,” Javadekar added.

Meanwhile, Union Health Ministry said that more than 1.84 crore coronavirus vaccine doses are currently available with states and union territories, adding 3,20,380 more doses are in the pipeline and will be received by them within the next three days.
