Mamata implies in a video message it wasn’t an ‘attack’ but an ‘accident’

Just a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claimed that she was injured as she had been pushed by “4-5 people” in Nandigram on Wednesday, she has issued a statement which implied that it was an “accident” and not an “attack on her.

Hospitalised in Smt Sucheta Kriplani Hospital, Banerjee shared a video and informed that she was sitting on the bonnet of her car and meeting people when suddenly her car met an accident.

‘When I was doing namaskar towards the crowd from the top of the bonnet, suddenly I felt a huge pressure/push, and my legs were crushed by the car’, the chief minister said.

Mamata also appealed to everyone to keep peace in Bengal.

“I appeal to everyone to be peaceful and maintain restraint and not do anything that will inconvenience people.”

Mamata also claimed even though “I have injuries on her chest, ankle, shoulder and neck…I will be able to return to work within 2-3 days as I don’t want to spoil my scheduled meeting. Even if I have to move around in a wheelchair, I will not let my meeting be hampered with this.”

However, earlier Banerjee had said she got hurt when she was allegedly pushed by a few unidentified people on Monday in Nandigram. The incident happened at Birulia when Banerjee after her scheduled program in Nandigram was returning back to Reyapara, where she was to stay in night.

Reacting to Mamata’s video statement, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya didn’t miss the changed stance of hers in a matter of 24 hours.

Adding more twist to the entire scenario, her version still does not match with that of eyewitnesses. One of the eyewitnesses informed the media personnel that she was sitting inside the car and the door was open. They said that the open door of the moving car had hit a short iron pillar on the side of the road, which had caused the door to close and hit the CM’s legs.

The Bhartiya Janata Party has already alleged that Mamata Banerjee was trying to turn a “simple accident” into a “pre-planned conspiracy”.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Trinamool still plans to raise black flags throughout Bengal as vowed by the state health minister Partha Chatterjee who also held the Election Commission responsible for the lapse in security. A Trinamool parliamentary delegation is to meet EC in Delhi on Friday on the Nandigram incident. Six MPs from both Houses are on their way to Delhi from Kolkata, as per RepublicWorld.

Election Commission, on its own part, has sought a report from Bengal’s chief secretary by Friday.

A Trinamool leader, Madan Mitra wildly claimed the Nandigram “attack” was carried out by RSS!
