Mamata’s alleged leaked audio clip could hurt her in Nandigram, Bengal

In what could be a devastating blow to not just her chances in Nandigram but also among her supporters in rest of Bengal, chief minister Mamata Banerjee is allegedly heard pleading for help from an erstwhile Trinamool Congress leader in an audio clip released by Calcutta News

BJP IT’s cell’s chief Amit Malviya has picked that clip and splashed it on social media where Mamata Banerjee is seen cajoling the present BJP district vice-president Pralay Pal, earlier with TMC, for help in the elections.

The elections in Nandigram are due in the second phase on April 1.

“You are a young man, you do a lot of work, I know. Please help us out a bit here, you will see, you will not experience any difficulty,” Mamata Banerjee is heard in the clip. Pralay Pal responds, “My family engaged in politics because of you, didi. The day when election results were announced, when we realised that you will become the Chief Minister, we invited 5 Brahmins for pujo and organised a rally.”

“But what hurts is, even after all such sacrifices, when Pralay Pal does not get receive a resident certificate, there is nothing more humiliating than that,” says Pal, “I shouldn’t receive a resident certificate, can it happen? I have been beaten by your Mahadev.”

Banerjee is heard explaining her ignorance of the matter, as well as saying that she can’t visit Nandigram due to the TMC leader there, a veiled reference presumably to Suvendu Adhikari, the former TMC stalwart who is now with BJP and pitched in a direct clash with the chief minister from the constituency.

Pralay Pal is unrelenting: “Whatever you think, Didi, I have quit the party now (TMC), I will not be able to betray the trust of the party I am in now,”

Mamata than casts aspersions on BJP to which Pal says he believes he is honest and would remain with BJP as long as the party is honest. He further expressed his loyalty to the Adhikari family who stood by him when the CPI-M persecuted him and that he shares a 40-year bond with them.

Pal concludes by addressing Mamata: “I am extremely grateful to you. You are such a huge politician and despite that, you have called an ordinary worker like me. But forgive me.”

India Today has quoted Pal thus: “She wanted me to work for her and return to TMC but I have long been associated with Suvendu Adhikari and the Adhikari family. I am now working for the Bharatiya Janata Party.”

“During the Left rule when CPI(M) was torturing the people of Nandigram, it was the Adhikari family who stood by us. I have never gone against them and I will never dare to,” he added.
