Modi first foreign head to receive Bhutan’s highest civilian award

PM Modi is the first foreign head of government to receive the Ngadag Pel gi Khorlo, Bhutan’s highest civilian award, which is considered the pinnacle of the country’s honour system as it takes precedence over all other orders, decorations and medals.

Admiring Bhutan for its “unique model of sustainable development and the deeply spiritual way of life”, PM Modi said India will always cherish the country as one of its “closest friends and neighbours” and continue to support its development journey “in every possible way”.

Last year, Prime Minister Modi received the Legion of Merit by the US Government’ award of the US Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
