With a large part of India celebrating Eid on Friday, many chose to ignore the ongoing covid pandemic in favour of a shopping spree. At a time when India is reporting a massive spike in covid-19 cases on a daily basis, such incidents weaken the nation’s fight against coronavirus.
A video shared by ANI showed all social distancing norms being flouted as people thronged shops in Hyderabad’s Charminar area. In the video people can be seen in the market without face-masks and proper social distancing. This happened when Telangana imposed a 10-day lockdown.

Maharashtra was no different. Despite, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Tuesday released guidelines for Eid and asked them to celebrate festival in simple way people of all age groups were seen shopping and roaming without masks in Muslim-dominated areas like Bhendi Bazaar in South Mumbai.
A similar situation was seen also in Uttar Pradesh, with a large number of people being spotted in the market of Firozabad.
With the highest number of active coronavirus cases in the union territory, people in Srinagar also flocked the markets without following social distancing norms.
Even newly elected West Bengal has allowed the gathering of 50 people for religious and cultural programs even when the state recorded its highest single-day spike of 19,441 covid-19 on Monday.
