Nadda promises reservation for OBC Hindus in Bengal

BJP national president JP Nadda has promised to include OBC Hindus in the reservation list once they are brought to power in West Bengal in a rally in Bishnupur today.

Taking a strident stand, Nadda said OBC Hindus such as Mahisya, Teli etc have been ignored by the present dispensation in West Bengal. He promised that a commission would be constituted and their inclusion would be recommended once BJP assumes command of the state.

It’s pertinent to note that no such reservation has come the way of these neglected lot in the regime of Mamata Banerjee in last 10 years.

Nadda said that Trinamool Congress was a party of “tolabazi” and its “true face was out” now. He also accused Mamata Banerjee’s party of doing appeasement politics.

‘TMC indulged in tolabazi, cut-money … TMC’s true face is out … TMC doing appeasement politics (sic),” Nadda said.

The roadshow, some 2km long, began from Kumari Talkies cinema hall and ended at the Bishnupur bus stand.

Shouting the slogans of Jai Shri Ram, “Narendra Modi Zindabad” and “J P Nadda Zindabad”, BJP workers gathered in large numbers to participate in Nadda’s roadshow. Nadda is also slated to hold a party meeting later during the day. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also held rallies in poll-bound West Bengal.

Reiterating Nadda’s allegations, Singh warned Mamata Banerjee that ‘tolabaazi, appeasement, cut money will not work in West Bengal now’. “I want to say ‘jore chhap, Trinamool saaf’,” Singh said.

“When there’s one ideology govt at both Centre and State, it has benefits. Like BJP govt in UP as well as Centre are collaboratively working for women welfare and development issues, similar work can be done in Bengal too,” Adityanath said in West Midnapore.

Rajnath Singh said that ‘bombs are made in West Bengal, and political workers are killed’. “The day we form the government, we will see who has had ‘Maa Ka Dudh’ to make bombs and attack people,” he said in Midnapore.

The BJP is confident of winning over 200 seats in the 294-seater West Bengal Assembly. The TMC has, on the other hand, claimed that the BJP will not be able to cross the double-digit mark in the polls. From being non-existent, the BJP emerged as a significant force in West Bengal, when it bagged 18 of the 42 seats in the 2019 general elections.
